I had to learn the hard way how to make a living Online. But Blog Money Secrets is far more than one man's success story. I can help you achieve results similar, with  money spent on your part — and absolutely no risk for you.

16 Tips For Developing Your Writer's Voice

Developing a Natural and Authentic Voice or Tone

1. What Do We Mean By "Tone?" By "tone" I mean the writer's flair or sense of position. Your tone should reveal to your readers who you are as a person. It should give them a sense of your writer's personality and place under the sun. It should also answer why you are writing in this particular niche. What is your background that has brought you to this subject? If you answer the questions in your own mind to your own satisfaction, you are ready to apply a sense of tone to your work:

2. Be Original. You don't need to be a great writer to put out a blog; but you do need to have something to say. You don't have to write awesome prose (although that's certainly nice). You don't even need to say something that's never been said before. But the more original you can be in what you say, the more likely people will pay attention.

Think about that for a moment. Which is more interesting: average, ordinary talk; or original and new ideas? The more original you can make your subject matter to be, the more likely your audience will be interested in reading what you have to say. This means you need to think through your subject in such a way that you can come up with a new slant on things. That always makes what you have to say more interesting.

3. Be Personal. I talked about being personal earlier, but it is so important to reemphasize it: let down your hair, letting people see a more personal side in your writing and they are much more likely to bond with you. This is important precisely because the Internet can be an extremely impersonal place. Whenever we find a website that is personalized, we are much more likely to stay longer on it than on one which has no personal touch.

Perhaps this is why gossip sites and magazines are so popular; we're fascinated about the lives of other people. Not that you have to get intimate, just give personalized information that reveals a little bit about yourself. You want to be make your writing as personal as possible so that readers feel they are hearing from a flesh and blood person.

If this is something that scares you, think about using a pseudonym and creating a profile and back-story for your blog's personality so that you can write from a character's particular point of view. Think Betty Crocker. She never existed, but millions loved what she represented. (Maybe this flies in the face of the next point, but I don't think so).

4. Be Honest. People love honesty. It is a breath of fresh air in a world full of smoke and mirrors. We enjoy someone who tells the truth, even if that truth doesn't show them in the best light. Make it your policy to tell the truth as you see it and you're audience will appreciate the candor. If you have a fictional blog writer, make certain that you keep that character consistent to his or her profile.

5. Have an Opinion. If you don't have an opinion what value are your words? Without an opinion about what you're writing, you're merely repeating what others have already said. So take a stand. Share your feelings. Tell people what you like or don't like about your subject, and chances are good they will respect you far more than if you just give bland information.

6. Be Passionate. Not only should you have an opinion, you should be passionate about your views. Most people are not very passionate about their views, and because of that they are uninteresting. The more passionate you are about any subject, the more people will be drawn to your passion. Sure, some people will disagree and they will tell you so (in their comments). But this is good. It shows they're reading.

7. Be Controversial. I'm not suggesting that you take a controversial side just to be controversial . . . although that really may not be such a bad idea. But nothing gets people more energized than controversy. When you stand up on your soapbox (which is your blog) and yell about your cause, you will have people yelling with you. Again, controversy almost always brings disagreement and anger from those who disagree with you. But it is far better to get a negative reaction, than no reaction at all.

8. Don't Sell. Consult. If you have a product to sell, you must remember that no one likes to be "sold". Usually when you feel someone is trying to sell you something, you'll back away. Whenever I visited a used car lot and a salesman approached me, I was almost always put off by his in your face techniques. I just want to look at the cars they have; I don't want him to try to sell me anything.

So I hold up my hand and say something like, "Just looking. I'm not buying anything today." Good salesmen have usually learned that the best way to approach anyone is not as a salesman, but as a consultant whose job it is to help them find the answers to their questions.

If you have a product to sell, don't think of yourself as a salesman, but as a consultant. You're here to give your readers help in solving their problems. You're here to meet their needs. And if their needs are met, chances are good that they will buy the product you are recommending.

9. Meet Needs. The primary reason people read other people's blogs is that they want certain of their needs met. Identify the needs of your target niche audience, writing them down so that you don't forget and so that you can refer to those needs often. Then work at meeting those needs on your blogs. Do this and you can't go wrong. The more you meet your reader's needs the stronger your following will become.

10. Be a Giver. There is a natural tendency for blog writers who are writing ebooks to hold back, giving their readers only a small sampling of their best work. Be wary about doing this, because you may end up watering down your blog so much that you don't give your readers anything of value. This is not the way you will develop loyalty. Make certain that you become a giver. Freely give away some of your best secrets and ideas, because in doing this, you will build loyalty and whet their appetites for more.

Have you ever received a special but unexpected Christmas gift from someone that you didn't know very well? You immediately feel the need to go out and give them a gift in return. When you give a lot of great free information to your readers, it builds a sense of obligation and loyalty on their part. They will be much more likely to stay with you because of what you've given to them free. And that's exactly what we're doing on this website and with eMoney Secrets.

11. Build Loyalty. You build loyalty by giving valuable content to your readers and meeting their needs. Whenever you think about your readers, think of them with the kind of loyal attitude that you want them to have towards you. In other words, treat them with the kind of loyalty that you want to receive.

12. Respect Your Readers. Don't ever talk down to your readers. Instead, treat them as equals who just don't know as much as you do yet, but who are hungry for the subject that you are talking about. Don't treat them like they're idiots by abusing them with a ton of ads that have nothing to do with your blog. Treat them with the same respect you feel you deserve.

13. Stay Focused. Don't allow yourself to get sidetracked. Your readers want you to give them targeted information about your niche. Don't disappoint them by talking about something that simply isn't related. You'll quickly lose credibility and drive away your readers.

14. Become An Authority. This point is of the utmost importance. You simply must present yourself as an authority on your subject. Even though you might not yet be an expert on this subject, if you do what I recommend above -- present your opinions, be passionate about them, stir up controversy, and give your readers something new and original that will help them -- you soon will become an authority on your subject. People will be coming to your site assuming you are an authority, so you must not disappoint them. Give them what they are looking for, or lose them forever.

If you have a lot of the same type of content — hundreds or even thousands of pages of similar content — this will likely put you into the powerful position with the search engines of owning an "authority site." Most of us know how it feels to be an authority with our family and friends. No doubt they depend upon you in many areas. When you gain this kind of authority status with the search engines, it will definitely create more popularity with your search rankings and increase the extent of your business.

15. Don Fake It. If you choose a subject to blog about which you know absolutely nothing about, you will have to fake it. Again, this goes back to being honest. If you are trying to play like you are an expert or authority with some subject that you don't have a clue about, you'll be likely to turn off your readers.

We all know that the Web is full of liars, especially when it comes to the money that people say they are making on the Internet. So many people want to sell Internet marketing products that offer a big commission, but which they have never used (at least with success), and so they make all of these great claims. Most people who read their sales pages will see they are just faking it. And pass them by.

So don't try to be something that you're not. Start with subjects about which you can quickly gain a comfortable level of authority before you plow on. If you are a business professional, obviously, this will be easy because you should thoroughly know your business.

16. Do Your Homework. Finally, to become an expert, you must do your homework. If your blog is on dogs, you should do a lot of reading on the subject. Even if you are pulling in other people's articles on the subject, you should spend time reading those articles so that you know what your own blog is saying.
