What Are My Qualifications
To Write This Book

I have written almost 60 hard-bound and paperback books. My books have been translated into eight languages, won awards and one was offered on national television. My solid writing background assures you I know how to put together well-written materials.

But more importantly, I haven't worked a day job in over 15 years. And in the last eight years I've made my living exclusively from my Internet businesses. We've grossed well over $2,000,000.00. I had to learn the hard way how to make a living Online. But Blog Money Secrets is far more than one man's success story. I can help you achieve results similar, with  money spent on your part — and absolutely no risk for you.

LAST: Create Your Own Advertising Philosophy #1

Create Your Own Advertising Philosophy
Part 2

Build Your Advertising Philosophy Deep

11. Avoid Annoying Ads. One of the big reasons the Internet has taken off is that people are able to choose what they want to read. They are no longer stuck watching a news program all the way through just to wait for sports scores. They can go online and get exactly what they want right now! Therefore, you don't want to annoy your readers by having vibrating, glowing, animated or noisy ads. These ads will either cause them to scroll up the page to avoid the ad, or worse, they'll just click away to someone else's site. So avoid annoying ads at all costs.

12. Avoid the Clutter of Too Many Ads. Too many ads, especially when those ads dominate the copy that brought in the traffic, will tend to make your blog look like it is simply an "ad farm." If you can make the ads unobtrusive, and not look like they are even ads, you can have more ads on your site. But always be aware that you can certainly overdo it, and that will drive your readers away.

13. As Far As Is Possible, Make Your Ads Blend In. People have become blind to ads because they are so used to seeing them. So you have to get those ads in front of them without their realizing they are looking at ads. Whenever possible, make your ads and the colors of your links bend into the regular scheme of your text design.

Don't make text ad links a different color than regular links. Keep them all the same. Of course, this makes it hard for the visitor to tell where the ads really are, and he is thus much more likely to click on links that are not seen as "advertising." If you ask them, most people will tell you that they don't want to see advertising. So even if they don't mistakenly click on one of your text ads, they will have a better feeling towards your website and will not see it as being designed purely to sell them something.

14. Fit the Ads to the Niche Subject. AdSense and some of the other contextual ad systems are designed to put ads into your blog that are relevant to your site. But when you put ads in from other companies that are not programmed to match your content, try to have them fit your niche content. Even if you have to write separate content to match the ad, do it. Your most successful ads will be those that match the content best.

15. Should You Use Affiliate Context Ads? You can go beyond the limited number of ads on your site by serving up a number of affiliate ads within the body of your articles as Context Ads. A context ad can either be a text link to an advertisement program or an affiliate product.

There is a WordPress plugin called "aLinks" which does a marvelous job of automatically highlighting keywords within your posts on which surfers can click and be transported to an affiliate sales page. Once you set this up for any keyword phrase, it will automatically make that phrase a link every time that term appears on your blog.

With aLinks, you can also make links that go to different pages within your site (or out of it to other websites). You certainly don't want to overuse this program. You can tell it to select only the first appearance of your keyword phrase in each article so that it won't be redundant.

But as you'll see in the affiliate ad articles, I don't recommend using this approach. This is really the lazy man's way of promoting affiliate links. Links that are totally out of context will probably offend a certain number of your site visitors. It is far better to write a whole review on an affiliate product and then provide a link then try to "slip one in" with an affiliate link. This will make people feel that you are trying to sell them something.

16. Learn the Art of Selling. Selling is both an art and a science. The science part is the numbers game, but in the art department you discover that because people don't want to "be sold" anything, the best way to approach them is to be a consultant.

I've sold cars (which I hated), time share, weddings, travel products and of course books, and I'm sure you could say that I've even sold "God" in my days as a pastor. I can tell you that in my experience, no one will buy (or give) unless they feel that you are meeting their needs and giving them good advice. The best salesmen do not present themselves as salesmen. They are "consultants." They tell you the pros and cons of the products in question, and then they let you decide.

Whenever I tried to "sell" something, I was a miserable failure. But when I simply made friends with people and shared with them my own experiences with the product, and was honest about the things that I didn't like, people were far more likely to listen . . . and buy. Not because I told them to, but because I respected them and let THEM make their own decision.

Keep this in mind as you write your blog articles. You must respect your readers and give them the kind of information you would like to receive if you were searching for some particular product or service or piece of information. They'll love you for it, and they'll follow your advice.

17. Test, Test, Test. The science of sales involves the numbers. The only way you can really be certain how your websites are doing is to test which pages get the most clicks and which subjects are drawing the most interest. Once you have developed a system to find out that information, you will want to expand upon those subjects and those ad systems.

With knowledge, you can make good money. Without knowledge, you will likely make less, because you simply don't know what's working or why. If you don't set up your sites to test your results, you will never be able to do anything more than guess about why you are, or are not, getting any results.

As a publisher, you want to keep questioning your integration of contextual, text-based ads by doing systematic experimentation and ongoing testing to be certain you have optimized your pages correctly. This focus can mean the difference between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per month in extra (or lost) income. For publishers who are working in higher paying niche arenas, the results of testing will likely make the difference in major money over the course of a year.

To be able to do a good job on your testing, you need some way of gathering data. It is probably not a wise idea to rely upon the limited data that your web host provides (assuming you even have a web host and not a generic blogspot blog).

18. Be Flexible. The rules above are guidelines, made to be broken. It's important to understand that these suggestions may not always be appropriate in every situation. When you apply them in the same way to different types of page content, you'll get different results, because you are dealing with so many different variables and niche and website types. No two sites will have all of the same needs, or bring the same results, so be flexible and concentrate on what works best in each different situation.

And of course I realize that sometimes there is just too much to do to get it all done — especially if you still have your day job. So decide which parts of this Advertising Philosophy apply most to your situation and then try to apply it.
